BUTTER AGREEMENT.

An Act relating to the Exportation of Butter from the Commonwealth.

Preamble.
WHEREAS an agreement (in this Act referred to as “the said Agreement”) has been entered into for the sale to the Imperial Government of the exportable surplus of the butter produced in Australia on or after the first day of August, One thousand nine hundred and twenty and on or before the thirty-first day of March, One thousand nine hundred and twenty-one:
And whereas it is desirable that assistance be given towards the carrying out of the said Agreement:
Be it therefore enacted by the King’s Most Excellent Majesty, the Senate, and the House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Australia, as follows:—
Short title.
1. This Act may be cited as the Butter Agreement Act 1920.
Power to prohibit export of butter except on certain terms.
2. The Governor-General may by proclamation prohibit the exportation from the Commonwealth of any butter produced in Australia on or after the first day of August, One thousand nine hundred and twenty and on or before the thirty-first day of March, One thousand nine hundred and twenty-one, unless the Minister for Trade and Customs is satisfied that the butter is being exported by or with the consent of the Commonwealth Dairy Produce Pool Committee constituted in accordance with the regulations.
Application of provisions of Customs Act as to prohibited exports.
3. Any butter exported from the Commonwealth in contravention of any proclamation issued in pursuance of the last preceding section shall be deemed to be a prohibited export, and the provisions of the Customs Act 1901-1916 shall apply in relation to that butter in like manner and to the same extent as if it were a prohibited export under that Act.
Regulations.
4. The Governor-General may make regulations, not inconsistent with this Act, for carrying out or giving effect to this Act, and in particular for prescribing the constitution and powers of the Commonwealth Dairy Produce Pool Committee, and the method of election or appointment and tenure of the members thereof.
