MINISTERS OF STATE.

No. 1 of 1952.

An Act to determine the number of the Ministers of State and to make provision for their Salaries and Allowances.

[Assented to 13th March, 1952.]

BE it enacted by the Queen’s Most Excellent Majesty, the Senate, and the House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Australia, as follows:—

Short title.

1. This Act may be cited as the Ministers of State Act 1952.

Commencement.

2. This Act shall be deemed to have come into operation on the first day of January, One thousand nine hundred and fifty-two.

Repeal.

3. The Acts specified in the Schedule to this Act are repealed.

Number of Ministers.

4. The number of the Ministers of State shall not exceed twenty.

Salaries of Minister.

5. The annual sum payable in pursuance of section sixty-six of the Constitution for the salaries of the Ministers of State shall not exceed Forty-one thousand pounds.

Additional allowance to Prime Minister.

6. There is payable to the Prime Minister, out of the Consolidated Revenue Fund, which is appropriated accordingly, an allowance, in addition to his salary, at the rate of Three thousand five hundred pounds a year.

Additional allowance to Ministers.

7. There is payable to each Minister of State (other than the Prime Minister), out of the Consolidated Revenue Fund, which is appropriated accordingly, an allowance, in addition to his salary, at the rate of One thousand pounds a year.
