REGULATIONS UNDER THE DEFENCE ACT 1903-1956.*
I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL in and over the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under the Defence Act 1903-1956.

Amendments of the Financial (Military) Regulations.†
Commencement.
1. These Regulations shall be deemed to have come into operation on the fourth day of December, 1959.
Parts.
2. Regulation 3 of the Financial (Military) Regulations is repealed and the following regulation inserted in its stead:—
“3. These Regulations are divided into Parts, as follows:—
Part I.—Preliminary (Regulations 1-6).
Part II.—Pay and Pay Allowances (Regulations 6a-30).
Part III.—Allotments (Regulations 31-35).
Part IV.—Miscellaneous (Regulations 36-42).”.
Repeal of Part 1a.
3. Part Ia. of the Financial (Military) Regulations is repealed.
Pay of General Officers.
4. Regulations 7, 7a and 8 of the Financial (Military) Regulations are repealed and the following regulations inserted in their stead:—
“6a.—(1.) An officer who holds the appointment of the Chief of the General Staff shall be paid pay and pay allowances at a consolidated rate of Six thousand one hundred and fifty pounds per annum.

“(2.) A lieutenant-general, other than a lieutenant-general holding the appointment of the Chief of the General Staff, shall be paid pay and pay allowances at a consolidated rate of Five thousand four hundred pounds per annum.
“(3.) A major-general shall be paid pay and pay allowances at a consolidated rate of Four thousand seven hundred and seventy-seven pounds per annum.
“(4.) Regulations 12 to 19 (inclusive) and regulations 36 and 37 of these Regulations do not apply to or in respect of an officer referred to in this regulation.
Pay of members other than General Officers.
“7.—(1.) Subject to these Regulations, the rate of pay of a member is the rate per day specified in relation to his rank in whichever of the First or Second Schedule to these Regulations is applicable or, where classifications and lengths of service are specified in either of those Schedules in relation to a rank, the rate per day so specified in relation to his rank, classification and length of service.
“(2.) Where—
(a) a member who is a warrant officer is appointed to commissioned rank; and
(b) the rate of pay per day applicable to him under the last preceding sub-regulation for any day on which he holds commissioned rank is less than the rate of pay that would have been applicable to him under the last preceding sub-regulation if he had continued to be a warrant officer of the same rank and classification and his service in commissioned rank had been a continuation of his service as a warrant officer of that rank and classification,
the rate of pay per day of the member is the rate of pay that would have been applicable to him under the last preceding sub-regulation if he had continued to be such a warrant officer.
“(3.) An incremental advancement in the rate of pay of a member in respect of length of service in a rank or rank and classification shall not be granted to a member unless the member complies with such conditions as are approved by the Minister.
“(4.) A rate of pay prescribed in the First or Second Schedule to these Regulations in relation to a classification applies to such members as the Military Board designates as holding that classification for the purposes of this regulation.
Good conduct increments.
“8.—(1.) Subject to such conditions as are approved by the Military Board, the rate of pay of a member of or below the rank of corporal (or relative rank) shall be increased by a good conduct increment of One shilling and three pence per day after the completion of five years’ service and by a further good conduct increment of One shilling and threepence per day after the completion of ten years’ service.
“(2.) The service of a member for the purposes of this regulation means such service as the military Board determines.”.
5. The Financial (Military) Regulations are amended by adding at the Schedules end thereof the following Schedules:—

Pay and good conduct increments: 1947-1959.
6.—(1.) During the period that commenced on the seventh day of August, 1947, and ended on the third day of December, 1959, members shall be deemed to have been entitled to such pay and good conduct increments at such rates and subject to such conditions as the Military Board determines.
(2.) In determining rates and conditions for the purpose of the last preceding sub-regulation, the Military Board may determine different rates and conditions for specified portions of that period and for members included in specified classes of members.
