Decimal Currency Board

An Act relating to the Decimal Currency award.

BE it enacted by the Queen’s Most Excellent Majesty, the Senate, and the House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Australia, as follows:—
Short title and citation.
1.—(1.) This Act may be cited as the Decimal Currency Board Act 1965.
(2.) The Currency Act 1963 is in this Act referred to as the Principal Act.
(3.) The Principal Act, as amended by this Act, may be cited as the Decimal Currency Board Act 1963–1965.
Commencement.
2. This Act shall come into operation on the day on which it receives the Royal Assent.

3. Section 2 of the Principal Act is amended by omitting from sub-section (2.) the words and letters “Parts II., III., IV. and” and inserting in their stead the word “Part”.
4. Section 3 of the Principal Act is repealed and the following section inserted in its stead:—
Parts.
“3. This Act is divided into Parts, as follows:—
Part I.—Preliminary (Sections 1–6).
Part V.—Arrangements for the Introduction of the Decimal Currency System.
Division 1.—Preliminary (Section 18).
Division 2.—Powers of Treasurer (Sections 19–20).
Division 3.—Establishment and Constitution of Decimal Currency Board (Sections 21–31).
Division 4.—Miscellaneous (Sections 32–33).
Part VI.—Miscellaneous (Section 38).”.
Repeal.
5. Section 4 of the Principal Act is repealed.
Extension to Territories.
6. Section 5 of the Principal Act is amended by inserting, after the word “Territories”, the words “of the Commonwealth”.
Repeal of Parts II., III. and IV.
7. Parts II., III. and IV. of the Principal Act are repealed.
Definitions.
8. Section 18 of the Principal Act is amended—
(a) by inserting in the definition of “the decimal currency system”, after the word and letters “Part II.”, the words “of the Currency Act 1965”; and
(b) by omitting from the definition of “the existing currency system” the words “repealed Acts” and inserting in their stead the words “Coinage Act 1909–1947”.
Repeal of sections 34-37.
9. Sections 34, 35, 36 and 37 of the Principal Act are repealed.
Repeal of Schedule.
10. The Schedule to the Principal Act is repealed.
