An Act to revise the Statute Law of the Commonwealth in consequence of the adoption of Decimal Currency.

[Assented to 29 October 1966]

BE it enacted by the Queen’s Most Excellent Majesty, the Senate, and the House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Australia, as follows:—

Short title.

1. This Act may be cited as the Statute Law Revision (Decimal Currency) Act 1966.

Commencement.

2.—(1.) Subject to the next succeeding sub-section, this Act shall come into operation on the first day of December, One thousand nine hundred and sixty-six.

(2.) Section 7 of this Act shall come into operation on the day on which the Air Accidents (Commonwealth Liability) Act 1963 comes into operation.

Amendments of Acts.

3. The Acts specified in the First Schedule to this Act are amended as set out in that Schedule.

Citations of amended Acts.

4. An Act specified in the first column of the Second Schedule to this Act, as amended by this Act, may be cited in the manner specified in the second column of that Schedule opposite the reference to that Act in the first column.

Audit Act 1901–1963—Second Schedule.

5. The Second Schedule to the Audit Act 1901-1965 is amended by omitting the form of Warrant set out therein and inserting in its stead the following form:—

Banking Act 1959-1965—Second Schedule.

6.—(1.) The Second Schedule to the Banking Act 1959-1965 is amended by omitting from Forms A, B, C, D, E, G, H, I and J the symbol “£” (wherever occurring) and inserting in its stead the symbol “$”.

(2.) The Second Schedule to the Banking Act 1959-1965 is amended by omitting Form F and inserting in its stead the following Form:—

Directions

1. This statement shall be prepared as at the close of business on Wednesday in each week.

2. Copies of this statement shall be delivered to the Commonwealth Statistician and to the Reserve Bank within fourteen days after the date as at which it is prepared.

3. The amounts in the statement shall be expressed in the currency of the country concerned.

4. The amount shown in column 2 against paragraph (d) of item 3 shall be arrived at by converting the balances to English currency at the relevant ruling telegraphic transfer buying rate of exchange.

5. The equivalents in Australian currency shown in column 3 shall be calculated at the relevant ruling telegraphic transfer buying rate of exchange.

6. Amounts may be shown in this statement to the nearest multiple of One thousand pounds or One thousand dollars, as the case requires.

Air Accidents (Commonwealth Liability) Act 1963—sections 8 and 14.

7.—(1.) Section 8 of the Air Accidents (Commonwealth Liability) Act 1963 is amended by omitting from sub-section (1.) the words “Seven thousand five hundred pounds” and inserting in their stead the words “Fifteen thousand dollars”.

(2.) Section 14 of the Air Accidents (Commonwealth Liability) Act 1963 is amended by omitting from sub-section (1.) the words “Seven thousand five hundred pounds” and inserting in their stead the words “Fifteen thousand dollars”.

(3.) The Air Accidents (Commonwealth Liability) Act 1963, as amended by this section, may be cited as the Air Accidents (Commonwealth Liability) Act 1963-1966.

Navigation Act 1912–1965—sections 100 and 179.

8.—(1.) Section 100 of the Navigation Act 1912-1965 is amended—

(a) by omitting from column 2 of the table the words “Forty pounds” (wherever occurring) and inserting in their stead the words “Eighty dollars”;

(b) by omitting from column 2 of the table the words “Twenty pounds” (wherever occurring) and inserting in their stead the words “Forty dollars”;

(c) by omitting from column 2 of the table the words “Ten pounds” (wherever occurring) and inserting in their stead the words “Twenty dollars”;

(d) by omitting from column 2 of the table the words “One hundred pounds” and inserting in their stead the words “Two hundred dollars”; and

(e) by omitting from column 2 of the table the words “Fifty pounds “ and inserting in their stead the words “One hundred dollars”.

(2.) Section 179 of the Navigation Act 1912–1965 is amended—

(a) by omitting from column 2 of the table the words “Forty pounds” (wherever occurring) and inserting in their stead the words “ Eighty dollars “;

(b) by omitting from column 2 of the table the words “Twenty pounds” (wherever occurring) and inserting in their stead the words “Forty dollars”; and

(c) by omitting from column 2 of the table the words “Ten pounds” and inserting in their stead the words “Twenty dollars”.
