An Act to amend the Acts Interpretation Act 1901

BE IT ENACTED by the Queen, and the Senate and the House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Australia, as follows:

Short title, &c.

1. (1) This Act may be cited as the Acts Interpretation Amendment Act 1980.

(2) The Acts Interpretation Act 1901 is in this Act referred to as the Principal Act.

Commencement

2. This Act shall be deemed to have come into operation on 1 January 1980.

Headings, schedules, marginal notes, footnotes and endnotes

3. Section 13 of the Principal Act is amended by omitting sub-section (3) and substituting the following sub-section:

“(3) No marginal note, footnote or endnote to an Act, and no heading to a section of an Act, shall be taken to be part of the Act.”.
