Weights and Measures (National Standards) Regulations2 (Amendment)

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL of the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under the Weights and Measures (National Standards) Act 1960.

Dated 17 May 1983.

N. M. STEPHEN

Governor-General

By His Excellency's Command,

(sgd) Barry Jones

Minister of State for Science and Technology

The candela

1. Regulation 56 of the Weights and Measures (National Standards) Regulations is repealed and the following regulation substituted:

“56. The candela is the luminous intensity, in a given direction, of a source that emits monochromatic radiation of the frequency 540 x 1012 hertz and has a radiant intensity in that direction of watt per steradian.”.

2. After Division 30 of Part II of the Weights and Measures (National Standards) Regulations the following Divisions are inserted:

“Division 31Magnetic flux

Units of measurement of magnetic flux

“69. (1) The units of measurement of magnetic flux are the units specified in column 2 of Schedule 30a.

“(2) A unit of measurement specified in an item in Schedule 30a is related to the weber as specified in column 3 of that Schedule in that item.

“(3) A unit of measurement specified in an item in Schedule 30a may be referred to by the symbol specified in column 4 of that Schedule in that item.

S.R.20/83 Cat. No. Recommended retail price 20c 10/11.2.1983

The weber

“70. The weber is the magnetic flux that, linking a circuit of one turn, produces in that circuit an electromotive force of 1 volt if the magnetic flux is reduced to zero at a uniform rate in 1 second.

“Division 32Magnetic flux density

Units of measurement of magnetic flux density

“71. (1) The unit of measurement of magnetic flux density are the units specified in column 2 of Schedule 30b.

“(2) A unit of measurement specified in an item in Schedule 30b is related to the tesla as specified in column 3 of that Schedule in that item.

“(3) A unit of measurement specified in an item in Schedule 30b may be referred to by the symbol specified in column 4 of that Schedule in that item.

The tesla

“72. The tesla is the magnetic flux density that results if a magnetic flux of 1 weber is uniformly distributed over a plane 1 square metre in area, the direction of the magnetic flux density being perpendicular to that plane.”.

Prescribed amount for the purposes of sub-section 18a (4) of the Act

3. Regulation 84 of the Weights and Measures (National Standards) Regulations is amended by omitting “$32,227” and substituting “$40,499”.

Schedule 2

4. Schedule 2 to the Weights and Measures (National Standards) Regulations is amended by omitting from column 3 in item 1 “108” and substituting “106”.

Schedule 8

5. Schedule 8 to the Weights and Measures (National Standards) Regulations is repealed and the following Schedule substituted:
