REGULATIONS UNDER THE AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL AIRLINES ACT 1945-1947.*
I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL in and over the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under the Australian National Airlines Act 1945-1947.

AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL AIRLINES (STAFF) REGULATIONS.
Citation.
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Australian National Airlines (Staff) Regulations.
Definitions.
2. In these Regulations, unless the contrary intention appears—
“ officer ” means an officer of the Commission, but does not include the general manager;
“ the Act ” means the Australian National Airlines Act 1945-1947.
Medical examination.
3. The medical examination referred to in paragraph (b) of subsection (3.) of section 17 of the Act shall be an examination by a legally qualified medical practitioner, approved by the Commission, as to the person’s sound bodily health and freedom from, or from predisposition to, any disease, and freedom from, or from predisposition to, any disability, likely to be aggravated by the nature of his duties or to impair his efficiency as an officer.
Oath or affirmation of allegiance.
4. The oath or affirmation of allegiance referred to in paragraph (c) of sub-section (3.) of section 17 of the Act shall be in accordance with Form A or Form B, as the case requires, in the Schedule to these Regulations and may be made and subscribed before a member of the

Commission, the general manager, or an officer or person in a class of officers or persons thereto authorized in writing by the Commission or the general manager.
Entrance examination.
5. The proscribed entrance examination referred to in sub-section (3.) of section 17 of the Act shall be—
(a) a written examination conducted by the Commission in the subjects of English (comprising essay writing and précis writing) and Arithmetic (comprising the full course such as is contained in a standard treatise); and
(b) a written or oral examination or a written and oral examination conducted by the Commission in General Intelligence (designed to test the examinee’s fitness and aptitude for appointment to the Service of the Commission).
Appointments without examination.
6.—(1.) The Commission may appoint a person who has not passed the examination specified in the last preceding regulation to a clerical position other than a clerical position the duties of which are performed by a junior clerk, a clerk on the lowest adult grading or a female clerical assistant.
(2.) The Commission may appoint, to a clerical position the duties of which are performed by a junior clerk, a clerk on the lowest adult grading or a female clerical assistant, a person—
(a) who is, at the date of commencement of these Regulations, employed by the Commission; or
(b) who is or was, immediately prior to the date of the purchase or acquisition by the Commission of a business, firm or corporation engaged in the operation of an airline service or a business associated with or ancillary to the operation of an airline service, employed by any such business, firm or corporation and who, immediately after the purchase or acquisition, is employed by the Commission.
Provisions to be complied with by candidates for examination.
7.—(.1.) A candidate for an examination for appointment to the Service of the Commission shall furnish to the Commission or to such person as the Commission directs—
(a) an application in his own handwriting in accordance with a form determined by the Commission;
(b) evidence as to his age; and
(c) a certificate as to his good character and industrious habits by his present or past employer, a school teacher or such other person as the Commission determines.
(2.) A person who fails to comply with any provision of the last, preceding sub-regulation shall not be entitled to present himself for examination.
