An Act to repeal Ministerial responsibility for approval of RU486, and for related purposes

The Parliament of Australia enacts:

1  Short title

This Act may be cited as the Therapeutic Goods Amendment (Repeal of Ministerial responsibility for approval of RU486) Act 2006.

2  Commencement

This Act commences on the day on which it receives the Royal Assent.

3  Purpose

  The purpose of this Act is to remove the responsibility for approval of RU486 from the Minister and to provide responsibility for approval of RU486 to the Therapeutic Goods Administration.

4  Schedule(s)

  Each Act that is specified in a Schedule to this Act is amended or repealed as set out in the applicable items in the Schedule concerned, and any other item in a Schedule to this Act has effect according to its terms.


Schedule 1Amendment of the Therapeutic Goods Act 1989

1  Subsection 3(1) (definition of restricted goods)

Repeal the definition.

2  Section 6AA

Repeal the section.

3  Section 6AB

Repeal the section.

4  Section 23AA

Repeal the section.

5  Subsection 57(9)

Repeal the subsection.
