Notice of Public Consultation on Variation to the National Environment Protection (Ambient Air Quality) Measure

The National Environment Protection Council (NEPC) is a national council of Commonwealth, State and Territory Ministers.  The NEPC’s role is to make National Environment Protection Measures (NEPMs). NEPMs are designed to improve national consistency in environment protection outcomes.

The Ambient Air Quality NEPM provides a national framework for monitoring and reporting on common ambient air pollutants. A variation to the NEPM is being proposed to update the air quality standards in relation to particles. This reflects the latest scientific understanding and will allow for an adequate level of health protection against the impacts of particle air pollution for the Australian community.

An Impact Statement and draft NEPM have been released for public consultation and can be downloaded from www.nepc.gov.au. Submissions on these documents are welcome. The closing date for submissions is Friday, 10 October 2014.

For information on the variation of the measure, visit www.nepc.gov.au, or contact NEPC Executive Officer, GPO Box 787, Canberra, ACT, 2601. Telephone: (02) 6274 1819; email NEPC@environment.gov.au.

This notice is given pursuant to s.18 of the National Environment Protection Council Act 1994 (Cwlth) and equivalent provisions in the corresponding Acts of States and Territories.
