An Act to amend the Passenger Movement Charge Act 1978, and for related purposes

[Assented to 2 December 2016]

The Parliament of Australia enacts:

1  Short title

  This Act is the Passenger Movement Charge Amendment Act 2016.

2  Commencement

 (1) Each provision of this Act specified in column 1 of the table commences, or is taken to have commenced, in accordance with column 2 of the table. Any other statement in column 2 has effect according to its terms.

1.  The whole of this Act

The later of:

(a) 1 July 2017; and

(b) the day Part 1 of Schedule 1 to the Income Tax Rates Amendment (Working Holiday Maker Reform) Act 2016 commences.

However, the provisions do not commence at all if the event mentioned in paragraph (b) does not occur.

  Legislation that is specified in a Schedule to this Act is amended or repealed as set out in the applicable items in the Schedule concerned, and any other item in a Schedule to this Act has effect according to its terms.

Schedule 1Amendments

 

Passenger Movement Charge Act 1978

1  Section 6

Omit “$55”, substitute “$60”.

2  Application of amendments

The amendment made by item 1 applies in relation to the departure of a person from Australia on or after the commencement of this Act, unless:

 (a) the person departs using a ticket or equivalent authority; and

 (b) the ticket or authority was sold or issued before that commencement.
