Notice of Public Consultation on Variation to the National Environment Protection (Ambient Air Quality) Measure
The National Environment Protection Council (NEPC) is a national council of Commonwealth, State and Territory Ministers. The NEPC’s role is to make National Environment Protection Measures (NEPMs). NEPMs are designed to improve national consistency in environment protection outcomes.
The Ambient Air Quality NEPM provides a national framework for monitoring and reporting on exposure to common ambient air pollutants. A variation to the NEPM is being proposed to update the air quality standards in relation to ozone, nitrogen dioxide and sulfur dioxide to reflect the latest science on the health risks from these air pollutants.
An Impact Statement, draft varied NEPM and supporting technical documents have been released for public consultation and can be downloaded from http://nepc.gov.au/nepms/ambient-air-quality. Submissions on these documents are welcome. The closing date for submissions is Wednesday, 7 August 2019.
