Queensland Class 3 Heavy Unloaded Trailer and Converter Dolly Dimension Exemption Notice 2024 (No.1)
Purpose
Authorising Provision
2. This notice is made under section 117 of the Heavy Vehicle National Law as in force in each state and territory (HVNL).
Title
3. This Notice may be cited as the Queensland Class 3 Heavy Unloaded Trailer and Converter Dolly Dimension Exemption Notice 2024 (No.1).
Commencement
4. This Notice commences on 10 February 2024.
Expiry
5. This Notice expires on 9 February 2029.
Definitions
6. Unless otherwise stated, words and expressions used in this notice have the same meanings as those defined in the HVNL.
7. In this notice—
‘Type 1 road train’ means a road train consisting of a prime mover hauling unit towing two trailers when the combination length is not longer than 36.5m.
Note: B-triple and AB-triple combinations up to 36.5m are categorised as a Type 1 road train.
‘Type 2 road train’ means a road train consisting of—
(a) a rigid truck hauling unit towing two trailers when the combination length is not longer than 47.5m; or
(b) a road train using a prime mover hauling unit towing three or four trailers when the combination length is not longer than 53.5m.
Note: An AB-triple combination longer than 36.5m and up to a length of 44.0m is categorised as a Type 2 road train
Application
8. This Notice applies only in Queensland.
9. This Notice applies to a combination comprising—
(a) a road train rated prime mover; and
(b) at least one semitrailer attached to the prime mover; and
(c) up to two unloaded trailers, and up to two converter dollies carried on a trailer mentioned in (b).
Exemption from prescribed dimension limit
10. This Notice exempts a semitrailer to which it applies from a dimension limit specified in section 8(d) of Schedule 6 of the National Regulation.
Conditions
11. A vehicle to which this notice applies may use a route or area mentioned in clause 16 or 17.
12. A vehicle to which this notice applies may operate to a maximum height of 4.6 metres
13. The drawbar of a dolly being carried must be secured to a trailer loaded above it to minimise rear overhang.
14. A warning flag must be attached to the extreme end of the dolly drawbar.
15. If travelling at night, in addition to the flag mentioned in clause 13, a rear facing delineator must be attached to the extreme end of the dolly drawbar and a warning light is attached to the rear of vehicle in the combination which has contact with the road.

Condition - Routes or areas
16. A Type 1 road train to which this notice applies may use the Type 1 and Type 2 road train routes and areas set out in Appendix 1.
17. A Type 2 road train to which this notice applies may use the Type 2 road train routes and areas set out in Appendix 1.
