REGULATIONS UNDER THE COMMERCE (TRADE DESCRIPTIONS) ACT 1905.*
I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL of the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under the Commerce (Trade Descriptions) Act 1905.

Amendments of the, Commerce (Imports) Regulations†
Interpretation.
1. Regulation 5 of the Commerce (Imports) Regulations is amended—
(a) by inserting after the definition of “drug” the following definition:—
“ ‘ fertilizer ’ includes any substance intended for or commonly used to fertilize the soil, other than—
(a) animal or vegetable manure; or
(b) crude material for the manufacture of fertilizer;”; and
(b) by omitting the definition of “ manures ”.
Additional prohibition of certain imports.
2. Regulation 7 of the Commerce (Imports) Regulations is amended by omitting from paragraph (c) of sub-regulation (1) the word “ manures ” and substituting the word “ fertilizer ”.
3. Regulation 12 of the Commerce (Imports) Regulations is repealed and the following regulation substituted:—
Fertilizer.
“ 12. (1) In the case of fertilizer, the trade description shall be indelibly branded upon the bag or other covering in which the fertilizer is contained and

shall, where the fertilizer contains nitrogen, potassium or phosphorus, include a statement of the percentage of each of those elements contained in the fertilizer.
“ (2) In a trade description that is applied to fertilizer—
(a) the word ‘ nitrogen ’ may be represented by the symbol ‘ N ’;
(b) the word ‘ potassium ’ may be represented by the symbol ‘ K ’; and
(c) the word ‘ phosphorus ’ may be represented by the symbol ‘ P ’.”.
Jewellery.
4. Regulation 16 of the Commerce (Imports) Regulations is amended—
(a) by inserting in sub-regulation (1), after the words “ carat quality ”, the words “ or degree of millesimal fineness ”; and
(b) by omitting from sub-regulation (3) the words and figures “ (e.g. ‘.925 fine ’) ”.
Pre-packed articles—weight or measure.
5. Regulation 20a of the Commerce (Imports) Regulations is amended by omitting from sub-regulation (9) the words “ Seventh Schedule ” and substituting the words “ Sixth Schedule ”.
Provisions applicable where articles contained in inner and outer packages.
6. Regulation 20p of the Commerce (Imports) Regulations is amended by omitting from sub-regulation (3) the words “ Seventh Schedule ” and substituting the words “ Sixth Schedule ”.
Commencement.
1. These Regulations shall come into operation on 1 February 1977.
