National Radioactive Waste Management Facility New Community Benefit Program

To provide funding to support the participation of the South Australian communities of Lyndhurst, Napandee and Wallerberdina in the selection process for the potential establishment and operation of a radioactive waste management facility under the National Radioactive Waste Management Act 2012, particularly to:

(a) mitigate and manage any potential social cohesion impacts of the site selection process on those communities, including by diversifying their economies; and

(b) contribute to the siting and establishment of a facility under that Act.

This objective also has the effect it would have if it were limited to measures to give effect to Australia’s obligations under the Joint Convention on the Safety of Spent Fuel Management and on the Safety of Radioactive Waste Management, particularly Article 11.
