1  Name

  This instrument is the Social Security (Essential Medical Equipment Payment – Essential Medical Equipment) Specification 2022.

2  Commencement

 (1) Each provision of this instrument specified in column 1 of the table commences, or is taken to have commenced, in accordance with column 2 of the table. Any other statement in column 2 has effect according to its terms.

3  Authority

  This instrument is made under paragraph 917C(3)(a) of the Social Security Act 1991.

4  Definitions

  In this instrument:

Act means the Social Security Act 1991.

5  Essential Medical Equipment

(1)  Each of the following items of equipment is specified essential medical equipment, to the extent it is used in circumstances specified (if any) for the purposes of paragraph 917C(1)(a) of the Act:

(a)    Home Dialysis Machine;

(b)    Home Ventilator;

(c)    Home Respirator;

(d)    Home Parenteral or Enteral Feeding Device;

(e)    Oxygen Concentrator;

(f)     Heart Pump;

(g)    Suction Pump;

(h)    Infant Apnoea Monitor, in circumstances it is prescribed by a medical practitioner following apnoeic episodes;

(i)      Nebuliser, in circumstances it is used daily;

(j)      Positive Airways Pressure Device;

(k)    Phototherapy Equipment;

(l)      Airbed Vibrator;

(m)  Electric Wheelchair;

(n)    Insulin Pump.
